Description

This is a model 1841 Mississippi rifle. It was used to fame by a rifle regiment in the Mexican War. Jefferson Davis commanded the regiment. It is 54 cal. and was a favorite rifle both of soldiers and later civilians who took the rifles west with them. One thousand of these went to California it is presumed to arm a militia unit. This one came from California. It is in original 54 cal. seven grove configuration. It has the old sight and does not have a lug for a bayonet. There is a bit of a cartouche on the left side and an inspector’s stamp JLH for James L Henderson USN. The rifle was made at Harper’s Ferry and is in good condition. It has a lot of rust on the barrel and has no proof marks showing. The rest of the barrel is in good shape. It has an all iron ramrod of the period. It will not hold on full cock. The front barrel band retention clip is missing part of its pin and so does not retain the band. Another easy fix. I have done nothing to this rifle. It is as found. The lock is dated 1851. Let me know if you have questions. The Peace Flask is dated 1846 and was made by NP Ames. It is in working order and was used heavily so I presume it went through the Mexican War. It has scratches and small dents all over. It has smooth wear also and it really talks to you. I am asking 2400. for the pair.
