Billy the Kid? https://bluestemantiques.com/product/billy-the-kid/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=billy-the-kid https://bluestemantiques.com/product/billy-the-kid/#respond Wed, 23 Apr 2025 22:11:30 +0000 https://bluestemantiques.com/?post_type=product&p=582 I am offering this tintype for sale. It was bought from a collector in New York. I have owned it for many years. It is in very good condition.
I bought it because of what I believe is a strong likeness to Billy the Kid. The Kid was from New York and wandered the west. The revolver is likely a Smith and Wesson from the 1870’s. The Kid died in the 1880’s (1881?).
I have not tested this tintype to compare it to a known photo of the Kid. I intend to. I an offereing it for sale as a photo with a lot of potential. I will post the results of any testing that I complete. It is clearly a photo of a young man who is headed toward a very short life with a sudden end. These tintypes were low cost photos (5 dents to 25 cents) that were taken by itinerant photographers all over America in the later half of the 19th century.
